It’s that hectic time of the year with everyone planning their holidays, marathon shopping, entertaining, travelling – it can be a stressful time for people. It can also be a stressful time for pets with so much activity in the home or on the go.

There is a natural method that’s gaining popularity to calm anxious or emotionally distressed pets.

Tellington TTouch®, or TTouch as it’s also known, is a unique approach to healthcare and training animals, developed by internationally-acclaimed animal expert, Linda Tellington-Jones. Based on compassion and respect for animals, these techniques promote optimal health and behavior by alleviating tension and pain, building confidence, and eliminating fearful or inappropriate responses.

The Tellington TTouch method involves gentle bodywork for animal companions. It often produces significant changes even with difficult behavioral issues. It’s a combination of touches, lifts, and strokes which induce a state of calm, relaxation, and increased body awareness.

According to practitioner Deborah Skelton, the method is used on domestic animals as well as farm animals and exotic pets. Deborah comments, “So far in my five year practice, fear and anxiety are the two most common issues.” Other issues the Tellington TTouch method is used for include:

  • Fearful, shy, nervous, unfocussed or emotionally distressed animal companions.
  • Difficulty with grooming, nail trimming, car sickness and trips to the vet.
  • Separation anxiety, chewing, leash pulling and other unwanted behavior.
  • Recovering from illness and injury.
  • Senior animals suffering from discomforts such as arthritis, stiffness.
  • A show animal or competitor who is tense and reactive at Showtime.
