COLONIAL RESORT & SPA
- Gananoque, ON
For over 100 years, tourists have flocked to Gananoque, to
experience the region’s amazing sights and rich cultural heritage.
One of the oldest parts of Canada, the “Canadian Gateway to the
Thousand Islands” is home to the 2nd biggest natural attraction in
Ontario, surpassed only by Niagara Falls, and is part of the UN
designated international biosphere due to the unique flora and fauna
particular to the area. Visitors can cruise through the islands,
tour the St. Lawrence Islands National Park (the smallest and 2nd
oldest federal national park), or see the area’s numerous historical
sites and artifacts. But when it comes to where to stay when
travelling with your pet, the Colonial Resort & Spa offers an
unforgettable retreat.
Specializing in group bookings for almost 30 years, including
conferences, reunions and weddings, the Colonial Resort combines
considerable experience in hospitality and service with a true
passion for pets. “We’re pet lovers ourselves” comments Bruce Henry,
the resort’s owner. “Our family has been farming for 25 years, and
we also raise thoroughbred horses. Animals have always occupied an
important role in our lives.”
The resort’s 10 landscaped acres and positioning well back from the
highway, offers plenty of green space and an ideal setting for long
walks with a dog along the property grounds, complete with strolling
paths, gazebos and park benches. 48 of the Colonial Resort’s 54
units allow pets in both smoking and non-smoking, and the property’s
ground floor layout provides guests with outdoor access right from
their room. Pet guests are even welcomed with a gift packet at
check-in, including a paw towel, tote bag and more.
Pets are not the only ones to get the royal treatment however.
Two-legged guests can access the resort’s numerous amenities, which
include 2 dining rooms and a pub, indoor and outdoor pools, gym,
steam room, tennis courts, bocce ball, and croquet to name but a
few. The property’s newly renovated Sensations Spa offers a complete
pampering experience, with services ranging from relaxation massage
to aromatherapy.
In Gananoque, visitors can access a parkway that runs alongside the
St. Lawrence River that is home to a 50km walking/biking trail.
Nearby Kingston, once the capital of Canada for a short period of
time, offers an old European feel and impressive waterfront, while
Upper Canada Village (1 hr 15 min from Gananoque) fascinates
spectators with its daily re-enactments of life during the 1860s.
Gananoque’s Festival of the Islands, held in August, is 2 weeks of
activities and entertainment that is definitely a must-see.
