Alberta – Canada’s Rocky Mountain Playground
Wedged in the very heart of western Canada lies one of its
richest provinces Alberta. Flanked by the Canadian Rocky
Mountains and British Columbia to the west, the prairies of
Saskatchewan to the east, the State of Montana to the south
and the Northwest Territories to the north, Alberta is the
fourth largest province in Canada with an area of 661,185
square km (255,303 sq. miles) and a population of three
million.
Along the province’s western edge, the legendary Canadian
Rockies offer a medley of mountains, national parks, emerald
lakes, charming villages and untrammeled wilderness. Banff
and Jasper National Parks are two spectacular Rocky Mountain
parks that are part of the four adjacent parks that together
have been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. During
the summer months in Banff National Park, you can experience
guided horseback trips, glacier tours on an Ice Explorer,
raft tours, fly fishing, boat tours, hiking, helicopter
sightseeing, or soak in the therapeutic waters of the hot
springs. In the winter, Alberta's mountain parks offer
world-class skiing and other activities in a majestic
setting.
